[18 of 24], [369 of 376], [12 of 14] leaves. In Roman and black letter, printed in two columns. Architectural woodcut title page, floriated initials, woodcut coat of arms, woodcut headpiece to The Knight's Tale, tailpieces. 30.8x21 cm (12¼x8¼"), rebacked with modern mottled calf, retaining older calf boards, all edges marbled. The seventh collected Chaucer, the second Speght edition.

Lacking 6 preliminary leaves and the entirety of signature S (folios 197-102).  "This edition considerably revised mainly with the aid of Francis Thynne. It is the earliest in which thorough punctuation was attempted, and in many other ways it is a distinct improvement upon Speght's first edition." (Pfrozheimer 178). 

Lot Amendments

Boards worn with abrasions to ornamental cornerpieces, corners bumped, rubbing; somewhat stained title page trimmed and mounted on another leaf, some repairs to preliminary leaves, occasional stains, chips and small tears; about very good.

We are specialists at packing and shipping books and works on paper.   All lots purchased by the same client are combined for shipping in order to keep the cost as economical as possible.  Our preferred method for domestic shipments is UPS Ground but we can also ship via FedEx or USPS Priority Mail. We do NOT ship USPS Media Mail under any circumstances.For international orders we select the most appropriate carrier depending on the value and weight of the items purchased.  We are happy to accommodate special arrangements by request.

Invoices are sent out the day following the auction and include a minimum $10 handling fee plus actual shipping and insurance charges.
