Title:
The Romish Ecclesiastical History of Late Years
Author:
Steele, Richard
Place:
London
Publisher:
Printed for J. Roberts
Date:
1714
Description:

Frontispiece of a Papal consistory. (Small 8vo) 17x10.6 cm (6¾x4¼"), contemporary panelled calf, raised bands. First Edition.

A highly anti-Catholic work, written under the guise of a translation of an Italian account of a Papal canonization process, with prefatory remarks and running commentary by Steele, whose attitude is suggested by his characterization of the subject.

In most copies, leaf F8 is excised as due to a printer's error it contains the same text as leaf G1; leaf F8 is present in this copy. This copy also contains a number of stubs in the early signatures, and several of these have traces of printing that make identification possible. It seems the printing office was in chaos.
