66 (of 68) leaves. a-d8 (-d2 & -d6), e6, f-h8, i6. Woodcut pictorial title page & 64 half-page woodcut illustrations in the text; woodcut initials. (4to) 19.8x14.3 cm (7¾x5½"), 19th century half calf & mottled boards, spine lettered in gilt.

Early illustrated edition of Aesop's Fables - the woodcuts are those of the edition of Milan 1498. OCLC locates two copies of this edition, both at the British Library. A few old circular rubberstamps of Walter Ashburner, Firenze.

Lot Amendments

Some rubbing to covers; moderate soiling and some light staining, 3 pages with ink scrawls in margins; hole in lower corner of leaf a2 affecting no text, ½" hole in leaf i2 affecting parts of 4 lines of text on recto and illustration on verso; lacking leaves d2 & d6; overall very good.

We are specialists at packing and shipping books and works on paper.   All lots purchased by the same client are combined for shipping in order to keep the cost as economical as possible.  Our preferred method for domestic shipments is UPS Ground but we can also ship via FedEx or USPS Priority Mail. We do NOT ship USPS Media Mail under any circumstances.For international orders we select the most appropriate carrier depending on the value and weight of the items purchased.  We are happy to accommodate special arrangements by request.

Invoices are sent out the day following the auction and include a minimum $10 handling fee plus actual shipping and insurance charges.
