Plate volume to "Istoria de'fenomeni del tremoto avvenuto nelle Calabrie e nel Valdemone nell'anno 1783"

Schiantarelli, Pompeo

Presso Giuseppe Campo

54 copperplate engravings or etchings on 52 plates. Engraved by Ant. Zabelli from drawings by Pompeo Schiantarelli. 35.5x46.5 cm (14x18¼"), period (original?) leather-backed boards, spine gilt.

Plate volume to Michele Sarcone's analysis of the earthquake that rocked Calabria and the Valdemone, and adjacent parts of Sicily and southern Italy. The striking plates show the countryside and villages, and the upheavals caused. The plates in the volume are numbered 1 to 57, with 13-14 and 15-16 being combined; plates 52, 55 and 56 are lacking, and 57 is loose. Sources indicate there should be 68, or perhaps 74, plates in all. Sold as is.
