Though not so identified, they seem to made using the process of printing in oil colors developed by George Baxter - he licensed his patented technique to others, and in 1860 financial circumstances forced him to sell most of his equipment, so the process spread. Evidence of removed library label on spine, pocket on rear pastedown. Bookplate of Reuben Rice on front pastedown, his ownership signature on back of the frontispiece.
