Manuscript regulations for holding a slave auction

Santiago de Cuba

2½ pp., on 2 sheets. Ink manuscript, in Spanish. 30.5x21 cm (12x8¼").

Rare manuscript regulations for holding a slave auction in the General Depository for Slaves (standard holding area for slaves). There are seven regulations listed, including stipulations such as the auctioneer must have a log for the day of the auction, where he must list the name of the slave, the slave owner's name, that the auctioneer ("el rematador") does not have any rights regarding discounts or compensation. A very significant historical document..

Lot Amendments

Some darkening to the paper, ink bleeding through, stitching holes in margin; very good.
