Title:
Romans Populaire Illustrés - illustrated works of James Fenimore Cooper

Author:
Cooper, James Fenimore

Place:
Paris

Publisher:
Gustave Barba

Date:
[c. 1849-51]

Description:

22 parts bound in 2 volumes. Illustrated by Bertall. (Imperial 8vo) red quarter calf with red pebbled cloth boards ruled and lettered in gilt on spines.

These titles, and several others by Cooper. were originally issued in parts in Barba's series of Romans Populaire Illustrés and were apparently later issued in bound volumes. Spiller and Blackburn stat that the series or individual titles were reprinted five times between 1849 and 1875. The 23 titles here were bound randomly, each with separate paginations and it is likely they were bound from the parts. The text of each of the two parts is preceded by a title page or cover apparently from the original parts issue. Institutional stamps on title pages and a few pages within. At foot of each spine is ownership name of G. Hantraye in gilt.
