Handwritten letter from Donald G. Mitchell, dated Aug. 30,1849, laid in. Presentation copy inscribed by Mitchell. Donald Grant Mitchell was an American essayist and novelist. He produced books o travel, volumes of essays on rural themes but best known for his sentimental essays.
The inserted letter is of interest, as Mitchell is transmitting his manuscript "Reign or Revolution" via a Mr. Raymond to Baker and Scribner for consideration. He outlines the six sections of the book briefly and closes with his travel plans so Raymond can reach him in East Waltham.
