Poets' Follies of '55

San Francisco

Theatre Arts Colony

Single sheet mailing flier printed in red, printed on both sides. 36.5x26.5 cm (14x10½").

A mailing flier for the "Poets' Follies of '55," an event presented by Kees and Michael Grieg, being a cabaret of sorts, featuring readings, music and dance. According to the flier, the event was slated to take place "Every Thurs. & Sun., 8p.m." During the January 25 installment , Kees read some of his work along with Lawrence Ferlinghetti of City Lights fame. A stripper from Oakland read from the work of  T. S. Eliot, and a jazz band played, with Kees on standup piano. One side of the sheet serves as a full page announcement, while the other side features a review from the San Francisco Chronicle, and a form for reserving tickets. The piece was designed to be folded twice for mailing. Scarce piece of Kees ephemera, with no previous auction records located.

Lot Amendments

Original vertical and horizontal folds, light wear and toning with a bit of faint staining; very good.
