Engraved title page + 43 copper-engraved maps with hand-coloreing in outline, comprising a large fold-out map of all of the Russian Empire & 42 double-page regional maps.(Folio) 53.6x36.5 cm (22¼x14¼"),  period tree calf, rebacked with modern calf, spine lettered in gilt, raised bands.

Scarce atlas with superbly engraved maps of the whole of Russia and its various provincial governments, stretching from St. Petersburgh eastward to the Pacific. Each of the maps with a captivating pictorial cartouche, many featuring beehives, and a large number with Greco-Roman mythological personages.  Bagrow-Castner II, pp 212-215.

Lot Amendments

Some light foxing and soiling mostly in margins, light dampstains to top margins at times intruding into images but with little negative effect, stains to title leaf, creasing to front free endpaper; overall very good.

We have a full service shipping department to ensure proper packing and safe delivery of purchases at reasonable cost. We are specialists at packing and shipping books and works on paper.   All lots purchased by the same client are combined for shipping in order to keep the cost as economical as possible.  Our preferred method for domestic shipments is UPS Ground but we can also ship via FedEx or USPS Priority Mail. We do NOT ship USPS Media Mail under any circumstances.For international orders we select the most appropriate carrier depending on the value and weight of the items purchased.  We are happy to accommodate special arrangements by request.

Invoices are sent out the day following the auction and include a minimum $10 handling fee plus actual shipping and insurance charges.
