[1], xxix, 323, viii, 476 pp. Illustrated with 55 plates after various artists including: Remington, Frost, Beard, Sanford and others, most engraved in wood, but includes 4 original etchings by R. Swain Gifford, with printed tissue-guards; plus photogravure frontispiece portrait of Roosevelt in a Rough Riders uniform. 27.1x20.3 cm (10¾x8"), finely bound at the Knickerbocker Press in full red levant morocco with inlaid cover emblems of a stag after an original design by Roosevelt, ruled in gilt, spine tooled and lettered in gilt with inlaid initials of the author in tan and green, raised bands; top edge gilt, others untrimmed; green levant morocco doublures with gun and cartridge-belt emblems inlaid in tan and brown green moiré silk endpapers. No. 853 of 1000 large paper copies, hand-numbered with Putnam's Sons facsimile autograph.

Signed by Roosevelt beneath the frontispiece photogravure portrait. Laid in is an early Newbegin's Books receipt for the book, Newbegin's label on recto of rear free endpaper. Bookplate of J. Wesley Ladd on front flyleaf.

We are specialists at packing and shipping books and works on paper.   All lots purchased by the same client are combined for shipping in order to keep the cost as economical as possible.  Our preferred method for domestic shipments is UPS Ground but we can also ship via FedEx or USPS Priority Mail. We do NOT ship USPS Media Mail under any circumstances.For international orders we select the most appropriate carrier depending on the value and weight of the items purchased.  We are happy to accommodate special arrangements by request.

Invoices are sent out the day following the auction and include a minimum $10 handling fee plus actual shipping and insurance charges.
