Description:

3 mounted photgraphs of H.G. Wells at various ages. Includes:

  • Sepia portrait. 10x14.5 cm (4x6"), mounted on dark grey board, 20x25 cm (8x9½"). Signed and Inscribed by Wells at the bottom right corner: "To Coulson Kernahan / with kind regards / from / H.G. Wells." The verso of board reads: "Fredr Hollyer, 9. Pembroke Sqre, Kensington, W." [c.1905].
  • Glossy b&w portrait. 21x15.5 cm (8¼x6"), mounted on light grey board, 25x20 cm (10x8"). Verso of board stamped: "Photo by Walter Stoneman, F.R.P.S. of J, Russell & Sons, 83 Baker Street, London, W.1."
  • Semi-gloss b&w portrait 21x15.5 cm (8½x6¼"), mounted indented cream board, 25.5x20 cm (10x8") and enclosed in a cream folder with gilt and red label for "Procter Portraits, Ronald Procter, London" on front. Signed in pencil, "Ronald Procter" beneath photograph.

Coulson Kernahan (1858-1943) was an ex-Territorial Officer and prolific author who contributed to The Army Quarterly, The National Review, Punch, The Spectator, and numerous other publications, as well as being the author of a number of books on various subjects.

We have a full service shipping department to ensure proper packing and safe delivery of purchases at reasonable cost. We are specialists at packing and shipping books and works on paper.   All lots purchased by the same client are combined for shipping in order to keep the cost as economical as possible.  Our preferred method for domestic shipments is UPS Ground but we can also ship via FedEx or USPS Priority Mail. We do NOT ship USPS Media Mail under any circumstances.For international orders we select the most appropriate carrier depending on the value and weight of the items purchased.  We are happy to accommodate special arrangements by request.

Invoices are sent out the day following the auction and include a minimum $10 handling fee plus actual shipping and insurance charges.
