Presentation copy, inscribed on front flyleaf to Botanist John Torrey from William H. Brewer, prominent  California Historian and author of "Up and Down California in 1860-64." First reprint edition, without original photographs but with a slightly expanded text, of Whitney's "The Yosemite Book" published in 1868 which included original albumen prints. 

The included maps are: "Map of the Yosemite Valley from surveys made by order of the Commissioners to manage the Yosemite Valley and Mariposa Big Tree Grove by C. King and J.T. Gardiner 1865" (39.5x64 cm) and "Map of a portion of the Sierra Nevada adjacent to the Yosemite Valley ... by Chs. Hoffmann and J.T.Gardiner, 1863-1867.
