[iii]-xvi, 624 pp. Illustrated with 40 plates by H.K. Browne ("Phiz"), including the frontispiece and additional title-page. (8vo) 21.4x13.5 cm (8½x5½"), 19th century red half-calf and cloth boards, morocco spine label lettered in gilt, gilt-decorated spine compartments. First Edition in book form.

With all three typographical errors called for in the first edition: p. 19, line 6: "elgble"; p. 209, line 23: "chair" instead of "hair"; and p. 275, line 22: "counsinship" instead of cousinship." Hatton & Cleaver p.275; Smith I, 10. Lacking half-title page, as is common with this title.

Lot Amendments

Rubbing at head of spine, chip and scratch to lettering piece, light rubbing to edges and corners; hinges repaired with tape, some foxing to leaves and plates; very good.

We are specialists at packing and shipping books and works on paper.   All lots purchased by the same client are combined for shipping in order to keep the cost as economical as possible.  Our preferred method for domestic shipments is UPS Ground but we can also ship via FedEx or USPS Priority Mail. We do NOT ship USPS Media Mail under any circumstances.For international orders we select the most appropriate carrier depending on the value and weight of the items purchased.  We are happy to accommodate special arrangements by request.

Invoices are sent out the day following the auction and include a minimum $10 handling fee plus actual shipping and insurance charges.
