20.6x14 cm (8x5½"), original orange cloth, lettered in gilt, original pictorial jacket. First Edition.

Signed on tipped in page at front. Copy of Ned Polsky, American author and sociologist. Marked with an ownership mark dated May, 1954 and owner's stamp on the title page. Baldwin's first book, an autobiographical novel recounting his early years as a preacher in Harlem.

Lot Amendments

Jacket worn along edges with flaking and some loss, 1" of top edge of front flap excised; faintly leaning spine slightly sunned; early ownership signature to front free endpaper, toning to edges of textblock, interior bright throughout; about near fine volume in very good jacket.

We are specialists at packing and shipping books and works on paper.   All lots purchased by the same client are combined for shipping in order to keep the cost as economical as possible.  Our preferred method for domestic shipments is UPS Ground but we can also ship via FedEx or USPS Priority Mail. We do NOT ship USPS Media Mail under any circumstances.For international orders we select the most appropriate carrier depending on the value and weight of the items purchased.  We are happy to accommodate special arrangements by request.

Invoices are sent out the day following the auction and include a minimum $10 handling fee plus actual shipping and insurance charges.
