CGC certified: Fine- (5.5). Cream to off-white pages. Scripts by Feldstein, Gaines, Craig. Craig cover. Art by Williamson, Elder, Kamen, Craig. Partial Frazetta inks to Williamson's "Fired!" Ray Bradbury adaptation ("Touch and Go").
Suicide cover by Johnny Craig (injury to "I" motif?). Man's face branded with cattle iron, with the carnage rendered with grim precision by Williamson-Frazetta. The horror is only mitigated by the reader's admiration of Frazetta's uncannily skilled pen-and-ink work and Williamson's stellar Craft-Tint technique.
"Williamson was so devoted to his craft that he would spend days on a single panel, rendering fine details that would be obliterated by the comics' cheap printing." -David Hadju, The Ten Cent Plague: The Great Comic-Book Scare and How It Changed America [FSG: 2008].
CGC census: Five 5.5 Universal copies. Comparable CGC sales: One 5.5 sale in the past 15 years: $375 (Sept. 2017).
