VF (8.0). An uncommonly nice example. Tabloid format, newsprint cover. Art by Bobby London, Gary Hallgren, Shary Flenniken, Larry Todd, Dan O'Neill, others.
Tabloid-format underground comic printed in orange, blue and black on newsprint. Included is a poster featuring Disney characters taking drugs and fornicating. The poster was drawn by Wally Wood and circulated by Paul Krassner of The Realist in 1967. Legal action ensued and the poster was pulled from circulation. The comic book is a 1st printing; the poster is not.
After the lawsuit harshed everyone's mellow, the primary artist, Bobby London, said he'd been hoodwinked into drawing Disney characters screwing and getting stoned by a Svengali-like Dan O'Neill: "London claimed that he never agreed to the portrayal of copyrighted characters in Air Pirates Funnies. When O'Neill first proposed that Disney characters be used in a continuing story, London declined to participate. 'I said, no way. I do not want to do that. I am not using other people's characters. I do not want to engage in any copyright infringements, or trademark violations, or anything like that.' After London voiced his objections, O'Neill assured him that his lawyers had done some research on the issue and found that the copyrights on the original 1930s characters were in the public domain. 'If O'Neill had told me 'We're gonna break Disney's copyrights and get our asses sued' I would have voted with my feet,'" etc. -Rosenkranz, Rebel Visions [FB: 2002].
