Appointment of Daniel Brinsmade as a first lieutenant in the Continental Army, signed by Jonathan Trumbull as Captain-General and Commander-in-Chief of the English Colony of Connecticut, in New-England, in America

Trumbull, Jonathan

Hartford, Conn.

June 10, 1776

Partially printed document, filled out in ink in a clerical hand, signed by Trumbull and countersigned by George Myllys as Secretary. Large red wax seal in left margin. With attached conjugate which is docketed. 21.5x31.8 cm (8½x15½").

Rare Revolutionary War appointment, as the rebellious colonies were desperately filling the ranks of their ragtag army. Brinsmade was appointed lieutenant "of a Company now ordered to be raised in this Colony, and to join the Continental Army".

Lot Amendments

A bit toned, stain at tip edge, small piece missing from seal, folds and a little edge wear; very good.
