Autograph letter signed by Sigmund Freud. In German. 22 lines, in ink, on one side of single sheet of Freud's letterhead. 37.5x21.3 cm (10¾x8½").
Fine, unpublished handwritten letter by the founder of psychoanalysis, with reference to Carl Jung. Freud writes as a doctor to a colleague about a prospective female patient, and says that she is not a good candidate for psychoanalysis: “50 years old, religious, not fluent in German – those are bad recommendations for a psychoanalytic treatment, if not even absolute contra-indications.” Ultimately he recommends that she seek to contact “Dr Jung in Zurich, or one of his students who speaks her language fluently”. An early letter, with an exceptionally rare mention of Carl Jung, Freud’s onetime disciple and intended successor, but later rival.
