Signed by John Muir on the half-title page with the inscription "Going to the Mountains is going home. John Muir / Martinez, California / March 1 1895." An association copy bearing the bookplate of Glen Dawson on verso of front free endpaper. Pencil inscription on same page reading "To Glen Dawson with much love from Father". Half-title page with faint pencil mountain sketch captioned "Mt. Fairweather, from Glacier Bay Alaska". Affixed to front pastedown and front free endpaper is a clipping from a magazine article about "the genial naturalist of California". Covering the Sierra Nevada mountain range. Kimes & Kimes states, "The book contains much of Muir's finest writing between 1875 and 1882, and is considered by many Muir admirers to be his finest book." First issue With the foliation mark "1" at foot of page 1. Howes M880, BAL 14746, Kimes 189; Currey & Kruska 258. No. 56 of the Zamorano 80.

We have a full service shipping department to ensure proper packing and safe delivery of purchases at reasonable cost. We are specialists at packing and shipping books and works on paper.   All lots purchased by the same client are combined for shipping in order to keep the cost as economical as possible.  Our preferred method for domestic shipments is UPS Ground but we can also ship via FedEx or USPS Priority Mail. We do NOT ship USPS Media Mail under any circumstances.For international orders we select the most appropriate carrier depending on the value and weight of the items purchased.  We are happy to accommodate special arrangements by request.

Invoices are sent out the day following the auction and include a minimum $10 handling fee plus actual shipping and insurance charges.
