xxiv, 296pp. (8vo) early full calf, rebacked to style. First Edition.

On the title page, the early signature of what appears to be Thomas Gould (could be Goold). There was a Thomas Gould (1766-1846) who was a Master of the Chancery Court in Ireland.

William Duff (1732-1815), M.A. Marischal College/Aberdeen, was a Scottish Presbyterian minister. Mary Catherine Moran, author of the ODNB article on Duff writes that his best known books (the one offered here and an earlier work on genius in poetry) “offered sophisticated accounts of the material and cultural forces that led to historical shifts in modes of artistic representation and literary composition....”

We are specialists at packing and shipping books and works on paper.   All lots purchased by the same client are combined for shipping in order to keep the cost as economical as possible.  Our preferred method for domestic shipments is UPS Ground but we can also ship via FedEx or USPS Priority Mail. We do NOT ship USPS Media Mail under any circumstances.For international orders we select the most appropriate carrier depending on the value and weight of the items purchased.  We are happy to accommodate special arrangements by request.

Invoices are sent out the day following the auction and include a minimum $10 handling fee plus actual shipping and insurance charges.
