Inscribed by the author on the front endpaper: "For someone very special. Please look after my darling little Joanne for me. Love Truman." Handsome edition of the final book published during Capote's lifetime, an autobiographical short story first published in a 1982 issue of Ladies' Home Journal, and adapted as a made-for-TV film in 1994, starring Katharine Hepburn, Henry Winkler, and Swoosie Kurtz. Though not explicitly stated, this copy was inscribed by Capote to Gotham Book Mart proprietor Andreas Brown, with the "darling little Joanne" in question being Joanne Carson, ex-wife of Johnny Carson and an intimate of Capote's, who in 1988 and 1991 loaned Brown $640,000 to buy and upgrade the shop's West 47th Street location.
