5 parts or fascicules bound together (with parts V & VI-X considered one part). With 113 lithographed plates, most in color. 28x20.5 cm (11x8½"), bound together in period full brown levant morocco elaborately tooled in gilt, raised spine bands, gilt inner dentelles, marbled endpapers, top edge gilt, slipcase with tooled pigskin sides.
Rare complete set of all five parts of Quaritch's stunning compilation of illumination and illustration, bound together in a striking deluxe extra-gilt binding. The original wrappers for all parts except the first are bound in. Despite the wording of the general title, one of the parts is dedicated to printing William Blake's illustrations for Milton's Comus, and another prints 31 plates of an Aztec codex. Only a small number of the fascicules seem to have been produced, and complete sets are rare, especially so in a special binding as this set.
