-
Shaw, Thomas G. Wine, the Vine, and the Cellar. (8vo) full burgundy bonded leather gilt. Facsimile edition of the 1864 second edition, one of 500 copies.
The Redding is an attractively bound facsimile edition, printed on acid-free paper, of the 1833 first edition. According to André Simon: "...no other book written in English on the subject of wines has ever been more popular nor so copiously copied from by later writers." *Gabler* G35862. Scarce.
The Shaw is a very attractively bound facsimile edition of the 1864 second edition (expanded and considerably revised from the 1863 first edition), printed on acid-free paper and retaining the folding plates that appeared in the original. Shaw was a Scottish wine merchant who was almost single-handedly credited with bringing about a reduction in the tax on wine coming into Great Britain and Ireland. André Simon called this title "one of the most interesting books we have on the subject." *Gabler* G38330 (referring to the second edition).
