History of Los Angeles County, California, with Illustrations Descriptive of Its Scenery, Residences, Fine Blocks and Manufactories, from Original Sketches by Artists of the Highest Ability

[Wilson, John Albert]

Thompson & West

vi, [11]-192 pp. Illustrated with 86 lithographed plates (2 of them double-page); hand-colored lithographed map. 27.8x36.5 cm. (11x14½"), restored leather-backed cloth, front cover lettered in copper gilt. First Edition.

Spectacular series of views of the rather sleepy settlements which were to become the megapolis of Southern California, including the communities of the future Orange County, just prior to the boom of the 1880s. The historical text includes biographical data, a business directory, etc. One of the scarcer of the Thompson & West county histories, and of a very desirable area. Cowan p. 397; Rocq 2657.

Lot Amendments

Touches of wear to cloth, and along edges of boards; faint toning to textblock, some miniscule edge tears to some leaves; very good.
