2 volumes. [4], 903, [1]; [2], 1075, [1] pp. Volume 8, January-June 1839, and Volume 9 (IX) July-December 1839. (4to) 25.6x20.3 cm (10x8"), quarter cloth over marbled boards with gilt lettering pieces on spines. 

Contains Francois Arago's presentation to the French Academy of Science regarding Louis Daguerre's development of the process that came to bear his name: the “Daguerreotype,” the first successful method for “fixing” images created by the effect of light on photo-sensitive chemicals. The world's first official announcement and description of photography. Also contains articles and correspondence concerning the process and relevant individuals.

Vol. I with front joint starting and a few small chips to lettering piece, a bit of fraying at head of spine with small chip to lettering piece of Vol. II; a few cracked or starting hinges, mild ripple to leaves; very good overall.

Invoices are sent out the day following the auction and include a minimum $10 handling fee plus actual shipping and insurance charges.
