5 volumes. Illustrated with plates from photographs, portraits, facsimiles, maps (some folding), etc. 21.8x15.3 cm (8½x6"), blue cloth, gilt spines. First Edition.

Volumes II & III with ownership signatures of Frank C. Lockwood. Lockwood's bookplate in Volume IV with a postcard to Lockwood laid in. Folding map of Anza's Route through Pimeria Alta detached from Vol. I and laid in. Frank C. Lockwood was a historian of the Southwest and a member of the faculty of the University of Arizona for 31 years.

Important compilation of original source material on the Spanish exploration and settlement of Alta California, called by Howes a "Monumental work containing translations of the original MS. diaries of Anza, Diaz, Garcés, Font and Palóu relating to the 1773 and 1774 expeditions and the founding of both Monterey and San Francisco." Cowan notes it as "of most important historical value." Cowan p.60; Hill p.29; Howes B583.

Invoices are sent out the day following the auction and include a minimum $10 handling fee plus actual shipping and insurance charges.
