Description:

Autograph note, signed twice. Approximately 4¾x4".

Two signatures on a single piece of paper, perhaps signed at his appearance at Rouse Hall in Peoria, Illinois on February 7, 1870. Douglass came to Peoria at the request of the Library Association of Peoria to speak at a benefit for the Ward Chapel AME Church. This was Douglass's final visit to Peoria. Signed at the top half of the page "Frederick Douglass. Peoria. 7th 1870" [month omitted] and on the bottom half of the page with a brief statement: "Fredk. Douglass. Born in Maryland, don't know when. 7th Feby. 1870".

Condition:

A few small spots of foxing and soiling; near fine.
