"A scandalous work" - Lowndes. Jones (fl. 1676-1720), a captain in the Horse Guards, wrote a number of historical works of which this is the most well-known. Composed as a series of letters purporting to have been written to an English peer between 1676 and 1689. Little reliance can be placed on the accuracy of the "secret diplomatic transactions" between the English and the French which it claims to divulge. Wing J9347
