Description:
Frontis. by J. Allen St. John. Blue cloth lettered in black, facsimile of the original color pictorial dust jacket. First Edition.
Inscribed by Burroughs to his brother-in-law Ed Gilbert on the front free endpaper, in a humorous vein: "To Edward Henry Gilbert, From what? Why, Edgar Rice Burroughs, Tarzana, May 27, 1939." The descenders on the place and date extend downward an inch or more. Bizarre twists in time bring together unlikely lovers: a stone age cave man and a modern woman. Only about 5,000 copies of the first edition were produced. Heins X8.1; Zeuschner 138.
Condition:
Spine darkened with color faded, rubbing at ends and corners, leaning; a bit of darkening to the endpapers, erasures to front free endpaper above the inscription, overall very good.
