(Oblong 4to) 9¾x12, original black cloth spine hand-sewn in white silk & yellow-patterned boards covered with hand-made decorative Japanese rice-paper (front with title and author name stamped in black), publisher’s handmade Japanese paper dust jacket, protective acetate cover. No. 66 of 100 copies, bound by hand by Giorgio, using Japanese Hosho paper. First Edition. |
| Signed in pencil by the author and the artist / book maker (Giorgio) in the colophon. This copy was purchased directly from the bookmaker, Bob Giorgio, which may account for the rare dust wrapper. Beautiful production of Snyder's long, nocturnal poem, hand made by Snyder's friend Bob Giorgio in "the ancient oriental tradition. I carved each word and each image in wood and linoleum. Furthermore, I printed the entire edition without a press, using only a bamboo spoon baren. Lastly, I bound each copy by hand. This slow, patient process has taken one year to complete....". Includes the publisher 13½x8” prospectus with woodcut illustration, laid in. |
