[4], 286 pp. 7x4½, original blind-stamped green cloth, spine stamped and lettered in gilt. Housed in a custom green morocco-backed slipcase. First Edition, First Issue.
The first book appearance of Thoreau's classic and important "Essay on Civil Disobedience." BAL binding state 'A' with blind-stamped wreath vignette on front and rear covers and spine imprint stamped from serifed types. Bookplate of J. Roy W. Barrette. BAL 20117.
Condition:
Slipcase spine faded; spine ends frayed, front joint split approximately one-third of the length, front hinge cracked; else very good.
