Description:
Details: a 2-page (38-line) passionate love poem from Jon Edgar Webb to his wife Louise (Gypsy Lou) Webb, signed at end, on typewriter paper, New Orleans address on top and typed note “This is a poem my love wrote to me, and woke me up one morning and it was next to the bed. Lou” of which has been circled ink blue pen with additional hand-written note “If you want to – go ahead use it.” Old tape stain along top edge of first page, original folds. No date, circa 1970-71. * Photocopy of a 1-page, 51-line typed letter to Mike Newman from Jon and Lou Webb, dated 5/14/71, discussing health, an interview for a local paper (New Mexico), Jon wishing they could travel on a motor home or “even a school bus fixed up for living,” wishing to do another publishing gig but need to relocate first, congratulates Mike for his recent novel, etc., etc. * 6¾x9 black and white photograph of a young Gypsy Lou and Jon Webb together sitting at table in front of house signed on back “To Mike from me & Jon – Lots of real love – 7/2/92, Slidell, LA.” Corners clipped. * Series of 6 color snap-shot photos taken by Mike Newman of Jon and Lou Webb while on a trip to Las Vegas in their VW bus license “Gitano” (2 with extra larger bonus photo attached via perforation, other 4 with inked notes by Lou Webb on verso), circa 1971.
Touching and lovely insight into the two lives that are the Loujon Press. Also, Mike Newman is mentioned extensively in the recent book: Bohemian New Orleans: The Story of the Outsider and Loujon Press by Jeff Weddle (2007).
