Description:
458, [1] pp. (8vo) 9¼x5½, original boards. First Edition.
"Barnwell, a surgeon, prepared the present work on medical climatology from his extensive experience and service with the East India Company. It was his intention 'to recommend those principles, and practices, which we have found most successful, in the diseases which most frequently occur in consequence of a warm temperature of the atmosphere; whether in tropical climates, or in the summer, and autumn, of more temperate latitudes' (Preface, p. [iii]). Barnwell concludes the book with a chapter on physianthropy which he defines as the experimental philosophy of human life." - Heirs of Hippocrates, 1612.
