Description:

5 multi-colored mimeographed leaves, bound by 1 staple (with 8 pages printed on the 5 leaves). The first leaf with an astrology circle, plus a copulating couple, directly above a map of the Northern United States, with an arrow pointing to Chicago. 27.5x21.5 cm (11x8½").

This multi-page announcement was distributed by the Yippies, to people such as Janis Joplin and Arlo Guthrie backstage at the Newport Folk Festival in 1968. It is 8 pages of text and illustrations printed on 5 multi-colored xeroxed leaves, bound by 1 staple. Signed on the cover by Paul Krassner. The first page of text (on verso of the cover) is authored by Jerry Rubin (who is not credited) and begins the message to the Yippies: "American is carnivorous. She eats the world for desert." And continues with: "What's needed is a generation of people who are freaky, crazy, irrational, sexy, angry, irreligious, childish and mad: people who burn draft cards, burn high school and college degrees: people who say: ''To hell with your goals!'; people who lure the youth with music, pot and acid: people who re-define reality, who re-define the normal; People who break with the status-is-role-title-consumer game..." The next leaf is green, and features a psychedelic illustration. The next leaf is textual, with a psychedelic illustration of eyes, announcing the Yip-Out: Resurrection of Free, Central Park / All Day / Easter Sunday. The Yip-Out was a be-in event held in Central Park NYC, in preparation for the Democratic National Convention protests of 1968. On verso of this leaf are instructions how to make a fire bomb and DMT. The announcement was mimeographed on 4 different colored sheets of mimeo paper with stencil cut on Ed Sanders Gestafax electronic stencil cutter. An important and rare item from the events leading up to the pivotal 1968 Democratic National Convention in Chicago.
