Signed by the photographer at the lower right. All San Francisco views, the first identified as Redwood Empire Building, the second as 1038 Scott St., the third a detail of the Redwood Empire Building, the last as 228 Filbert Street, Telegraph Hill. William Abbenseth (1898–1972) was an American photographer best known for his black & white photographs of San Francisco architecture such as those offered here. Abbenseth became involved in the Federal Art Project in the mid-1930s primarily photographing San Francisco homes and other buildings. His photographs are held in many institutional collections, including the SFMOMA and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.
