From the li​​brary of noted Swedish scientist J. Tandenberg, and signed by him on the front free endpaper. This work is based on a manuscript written by William Stukeley, an eighteenth century physician who, though 45 years his junior, came to know Isaac Newton well during the last decade of Newton's life. This manuscript, never before published, was handed down over the years together with other Newton related papers. Our knowledge of Newton's early life is very limited, and Stukeley's recordings of the reminiscences of many older people who know the young Isaac Newton provides one of the very few windows into that period of his life. The book is further enhanced by Stukeley's own pen and ink profile portrait of Newton and a facsimilie of Stukeley's sketch of the house in which Newton was born. Wallis-Newton & Newtonia, 407.68
