456 pp. Frontispiece and 3 wood-engraved plates. 19x12.5 cm. (7½x4¾"), original cloth.

This edition of Frémont's famous report was the first to contain the notices of the Gold Region of California. This copy does not contain the map, which was apparently not issued in all copies; there is no sign of it ever having been bound in. Graff 1435; Smith 3360; Wagner-Camp 115:14.

Condition:

Spine detached from text block along rear joint, corners frayed, rubbed; foxing and cracking at gutters between signatures; else very good.
