Victor F. Lawson was an important proprietor and editor of Chicago news publications. The letters from Lawson are lengthier and offer a greater insight into the life of Eugene Field through this personal correspondence which covers Field's health, his own newspaper's circulation and the politics involved, and later a request for more "Sharps and Flats," contribution. James W. Scott was a prominent Chicago newspaper publisher, and established a few important Chicago news publications. The letters from him are on a more professional level, and involve a few invitations to engagements, but offer a valuable insight into the lives of two very busy men.
