The Auto Vehicle Company was founded in 1902 by William H. Burnham of Orange County, Carol S. Hartman of Pasadena, and Willis D. Longyear of Ocean Park. The company is best known for its popular 2 or 4 cylinder 'Tourist' model. AVC was bought out by the California Automobile Company in 1909, production of the Tourist would continue for another year at which time the decision was made to switch to production of electric vehicles. The present collection of documents covers approximately 2 years leading up to the sale of the company in November, 1909 and with the settlement of remaining debt in the succeeding years.
