Two rare pieces of golf ephemera and Americana, both for the same 1918 benefit tournament, showcasing four players: Bobby Jones, Perry Adair, Alexa Stirling and Elaine Rosenthal. During WWI and with the worldwide flu pandemic, these four went on a tour to raise money for the American Red Cross. Bobby Jones (1902-1971) was only 16 at the time of this 1918 tournament. Alexa Stirling (1897-1977) is known as “The Girl Who Beat Bobby Jones” as she was the only woman golfer to defeat Jones in a serious competition; however, he was only 6 and she was 12 – an obvious disadvantage. Stirling also won three consecutive U.S. Women's Amateur titles in 1916, 1919 and 1920 (none played in 1917-18 due to the WWI).
