Important compilation of voyages and travels from the 16th to 18th centuries, many not previously published in England, with the noteworthy complement of 37 maps by Herman Moll. The expeditions related include excursions into the far reaches of the world, as well as more leisurely tours of Europe. Among the contributions are Henry Blount's Voyage into the Levant; The Voyages Made into Turky, by Nicholas Nicholay, Daulphinois; The Preacher's Travels across Asia to the East Indies; The Travels of Four Englishmen and a Preacher into Africa, Asia, Troy, etc.; Mr. F. Bernier's Voyage to Surat; The World Encompassed by Sir Francis Drake; A Short Discovery of the Coast and Continent of America, by William Castle, etc. etc. The maps include the World (with California depicted as an island); North America (California again an island), the East and West Indies; Asia, Europe, Africa, the Mediterranean, and many other regions and areas of the world. Eight of the maps relate directly to the Americas. The work, intended as a supplement to Churchill's famous aggregation of voyages, contains much material from the Earl of Oxford’s library and known as the “Oxford Collection of Voyages."
