An eloquently written account of the nature, organization, work and aims of the recently founded Royal Society. The work represents the Royal Society's attempt to give itself a genuine British origin, exaggerating the influence of Francis Bacon and suppressing the importance of contributions from Continental scientists like Haak and Mersenne. The work contains two contributions by Robert Hooke; "A method for making a history of the weather; and "An account of a dog dissected". It also contains Lord Brouncker's "Experiments of the Recoiling of Guns" and Dr. Goddard's "A Proposal for making Wine". Wing S-5032; Norman Library II, 1989.
