2 volumes, the Sanscrit text and English translation. ix, [3], 436, [2]; [6], xii, [2], 450, [1] pp. (4to) 10x7½, period half morocco & mottled boards, spines lettered in gilt. Second Edition of this translation.

William Jones' important translation of the Hindu laws considered divine revelation communicated by Menu, son of Brahma, intimately connected with the conduct of life. The alternate title is Manava-Dherma-Sastra; or the Institutes of Menu. With the bookplate of culinary collector Marcus Crahan, evidently he acquired it under the misapprehension that it was focused on menus of food. Also the bookplates of the Ware, Mass., Y.M.C.A., with white ink spine numbers and a few markings within.

Condition:

Scuffing to joints, spines and extremities; else very good.
