Begun in 1782, Charles Burney's memoirs were added to periodically throughout his life. His daughter, Fanny Burney, admits to having had "committed to flames" most of his work (on the grounds of his supposed senility). The work is therefore, not the most reliable work on Dr. Burney's life.
