Alfred John (Jack) Westland (1904-1982), a U.S. Representative from Washington, served during WWII in the Pacific as a commander in the Navy; was elected to Congress during the 1950’s, was friends with many high ranking officials and celebrities and later moved to Pebble Beach. Westland won the 1952 U.S. Amateur held at Seattle Golf Club, the oldest to do so, winning at the age of 47. Nearly twenty years earlier he was runner-up in the same event (held in Chicago) to the 38 year old Francis Ouimet.
