3 volumes. 412; 446 pp + atlas volume. Additional maps and illustrations in text volumes. (8vo) 9½x6¼, red cloth, top edges gilt on text volumes, edges untrimmed. First Edition.

Often considered the best work on the first overland postal service from the Mississippi to the Pacific Coast.

Condition:

Text volumes apparent ex-library copies with large black squares inked at bottom of spines, apparently to cover library numbers; some soiling to cloth, light edge wear; else very good. Atlas volume near fine.
