Copper-engraved map. 43.8x41.2 cm. (17¼x16¼").

One of two maps of the American West published in Washington Irving's The Rocky Mountains..., based on the explorations of Captain Benjamin Bonneville. He is credited with locating the Humboldt and San Joaquin Rivers, though the names are different; Great Salt Lake is called Lake Bonneville. Wheat, Transmississippi, 424.

Condition:

Creased from being in a book, a few light stains, left margin trimmed for folding, as issued, else very good.
