3 volumes. xxiv, 645; xii, 694; xii, 731 pp. With 4 steel-enngraved plates (double-frontispieces in Vols. I & II); 7 facsimile plates, 3 of them folding. 9x5½, original blindstamped cloth, spines lettered in gilt. First Edition.

Important biography of the third president of the United States; among the plates is a 2-page facsimile of the draft of the Declaration of Independence.

Condition:

Some wear to corners and spine ends, Vol. I with horizontal tear to spine strip with neat repair; Vol. III with small booksellers catalogue entry affixed to title-page, dampstaining to upper corners of first 50 leaves affecting some text, else very good, with the bookplates of Charles A. Westerfield.
