Gelatin silver print wire photo with carbon typed identifying label on verso and rubberstamped by Sport & General of London. Label dated June 6, 1932. Measures 8x10". Signed and dated 1993 by Gene Sarazen in black ink in the bottom left margin.

Taken during the 1932 British Open Championship held at Prince's, Sandwich, Kent. Shows a medium close-up of Sarazen (1902–1999) driving off the first tee as his caddie Ernest "Skip" Daniels, Bert Gadd, officials and spectators watch the action. After two tries (1928 and 1931), Sarazen finally won his first and only British Open defeating Mac Smith by 5 strokes with a 283. Suitably inspired, he returned home to win the U.S. Open at Fresh Meadow, playing the last 28 holes in 100 strokes, a feat which Bobby Jones described as "the finest competitive exhibition on record." While working the courses in Kent, Skip Daniels had gained international notoriety when Walter Hagen gave him his cash prize after winning the 1922 Open at Sandwich. Six year later (1928), Hagen agreed to lend Daniels’ services to Sarazen who was attempting for the first time to win the title. Defeated by Hagen, Sarazen retained Daniels whose knowledge of Prince's layout was a major factor in securing the 1932 championship. Truly a museum / institution type piece; rarely seen offered on the open market today.
